Community Training and Response Center
Kirkwood's Community Training and Response Center
is a new 10,755 square-foot facility on the north campus of Kirkwood Community
College. CTRC creates a comprehensive headquarters dedicated to helping
communities and organizations across the country to prepare, respond,
and recover from emergency situations. To accomplish its goal, the CTRC
has brought together six college and community operations with similar
missions. Each is a Best Practice showcase in their respective discipline.
The National Mass Fatalities Institute
(NMFI) - Provides training and education to help communities, businesses,
industries, government and disaster response agencies effectively plan
for, respond to, and recover from a mass fatalities incident.
The Hazardous Materials Training
and Research Institute (HMTRI) - Provides training in homeland
security, hazardous materials handling, industrial health and safety,
and industrial fire and rescue response for trainers, industrial workers,
and responders.
The Linn County Emergency Management
Agency (Linn EMA) - Provides a systematic approach to the coordination
of emergency response in Linn County and supports surrounding counties
on an as-needed basis.
The Midwest OSHA Education Center-
Provides occupational safety and health training for area business and
industry, including HAZMAT, egress, industrial, and construction safety
training.
The East Central Iowa Regional Fire
Service Training Center - Provides municipal volunteer and industrial
firefighter training.
The Environmental Training Center
- Provides environmental training and education in the areas
of municipal water and wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and
fire safety for public sector operators and responders.
