Welcome to the Public Warehousing and Storage Safety Training Program
developed by Kirkwood Community College!
This training program consists of
twenty-four lessons that depict common, unsafe actions and conditions that exist
in most warehouses. The topics selected, represent the greatest hazards in public warehousing as
determined by accident statistics, OSHA violations, OSHA training
requirements, input from warehouse workers, and suggestions from Kirkwood trainers who
conduct health and safety training. Each of the twenty-four lessons in this
training program will introduce you to a safety hazard that is common in many
warehouses. All of the lessons are structured in the same way and include
the following:
1. Learning Objectives (Specific information you are expected to know.)
2. Background Information (A scenario for a specific situation in a
warehouse.)
3. Problems/Questions (Given the background information provided, you
will be asked questions pertaining to specific unsafe actions or conditions.)
4. Helpful Hints (To assist you in identifying unsafe actions or
conditions, you will be provided helpful hints.)
5. Solutions/Answers (You will be asked to identify specific solutions
to each unsafe action or condition.)
6. Safety Briefing (You will be provided with a concluding safety
briefing that will reinforce the information presented in each lesson.)
7. Regulatory Resources (You will also be provided a list of the
appropriate federal regulations that govern each topic presented.
