NC PETE Membership Options

Membership in North Central PETE is open to community colleges, other colleges and universities, national laboratories, federal and state governments and departments, educational and training organizations, related professional associations, and private industry that address national and regional education issues affecting environmental technician education. The General Membership is limited to two-year accredited colleges with an active state-approved environmental degree or certification program. Institutions other than two-year accredited colleges are invited to become involved as an Affiliate Member. Affiliate membership is available in three categories: Industry, Government, and Education.

NC PETE Objectives

  • To promote and support the delivery of environmental technician degree programs at accredited community and technical colleges and the transfer of appropriate credits to baccalaureate degree programs.

  • To develop a collaborative and mutually supportive relationship between the colleges and the Department of Energy (DoE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to bring the technical expertise of government laboratories and operating contractors into continuing support of college environmental training programs and to supply DoE and EPA with environmental technicians to meet workforce needs.

  • To provide a mechanism for coordinating industry, government, college, professional society, and laboratory collaboration on environmental technician education issues.

  • To promote quality in environmental technician training through curriculum consultation, voluntary program evaluation, instructor development and other professional development development activities.

  • To support national educational objectives including outreach initiatives such as tech prep at the secondary level and improved access to environmental training for underrepresented populations and at-risk students.
